DIRECTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MAJOR DECLARATION FORM

Welcome to the College of Education (COE)!  The Major Declaration form will help you to further refine your academic goals.  Please read the 3 options below and select one that best fits your current situation. 

Students interested in teaching will need to know these definitions before completing the form:

Non-Licensure Track = Courses that meet General Education, pre-requisite, elective, or unrestricted major requirements for the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree.  This track does not lead to a license to teach in the State of Hawaii.                                                         

Licensure Track = Consists of restricted Education major courses.  Students need to pass specific admission criteria to take these courses (for example, the Praxis test, a COE interview, minimum number of field experience hours with children/youth).  This track leads to a State of Hawaii initial teaching license.

 Option 1:  Beginning the Journey = New to the College of Education

            I am a:

·    New or transfer student admitted to UH Manoa

·    Current UHM student who wants to enter the COE

Please select Option 1 if you would like to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree or a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS).  Pull down menu options will ask you for specific information regarding the major you would like to pursue in either of these degree programs.

For B.Ed. Students Only:  As a new or transfer student, you are initially admitted into the Non-Licensure Track because you either have not yet met all admissions requirements to apply to the Initial Licensure Track program OR you want to complete the B.Ed. without the option of a license to teach.

Option 2:  On the Path Toward a Teaching License = Ready to Apply to the Licensure Track

This option is available for students who have met all prerequisite admission requirements.  You may apply for this option if you are a:

·    New or transfer student

·    Current College of Education student

You will be asked a series of questions about the program you would like to apply to and your subject specialization.
All Licensure Track applicants must read the following application instructions for their licensure program before final submission of their COE online eform application.

BED Elementary Education-Manoa Cohort

BED Elementary Education-Statewide Cohort

BED Secondary Education

PBCSE-Post Baccalaureate in Secondary Education

PB-SPED-Post Baccalaureate in Special Education
